Get with the Crew

August 24, 2010

American Crew is one of my favourite brands – mixing old school 70’s and 80’s barber shop style with 21st century male grooming needs. This month I road tested American Crew’s Defining Paste.

Now this stuff doesn’t give as much as hold as American Crew’s award winning Fiber  (in 2009 it won the Men’s Health grooming product of the year award and in 2006 won FHM’s grooming product of the year), but is just as pliable and gives good definition while providing a matte finish. It gives quite a low shine to the hair but not as natural as some matte clays.

Work this through dry hair for best results. Putting this in damp hair can leave you with a less natural look.

Apparently men are useless

August 24, 2010

Ever had to borrow your girlfriend’s leg razor to have a shave when all your blades are blunt? Sick of roaming the supermarket shelves for shampoo and shower gel? Are you smelling like a hobo because you’re out of deodorant again this month?

Then check out this new grooming subscription service that delivers a whole load of essential grooming products to you every month.

The packs start from £9.99 per month (including delivery) and contain everything from razors, shampoos and shower gels from brands like King of Shaves, Original Source, Moose Head and Bionsen.

This all gets delivered right through your letterbox in a slimline package – so no more attempted delivery notes, or early weekend wake-up calls from the postman.

This stuff has been forged on a Polish building site. It’s as tough as iron but as flexible as aluminium. As it says on the pot – this stuff is hair concrete. If you want that natural look, but need strong hold and definition, then look no further.

It is known as the ‘Caviar’ of hair styling tools – arguably this might because it’s fairly expensive (around £17.00) – or it might be because it’s so damn good. The downside to such a strong hold clay is that it takes a few good shampoo sessions to get this stuff out.

The product: Alterna Hair Concrete – Hemp Organics

How to use: warm it up in your palms and apply to dry hair

Where to buy: hair salons or online
